7 Essential Tips to get your goals

by Des Menz posted in Work, Life, and Yourself

How To Achieve Your Goals looked at some practical methods.

But, what is YOUR goal (or goals) in life? Have you ever asked yourself that question?

Many people today have lost the skill in goal-setting. They live out each day as it passes, with no definite finish line ahead. It's no way to embrace a work-at-home business, if that's your mission.

Some people might have a general idea of becoming successful, but that's where it stops. There's no goal.

How many times have you heard people say that they want a house of their own? While this is a commendable goal, it's far too vague and is more than likely to remain a dream rather than a reality.

What use is a goal like that if it's not defined clearly?

Effective tips for goal-setting

The following tips illustrate the difference between dreams and reality. Are you ready? Read on and start checking off items from your goals list.

1. Set achievable goals

Obvious isn't it? It's just about the most important tip for goal-setting but it is often put aside.

Here's an example. It would be silly to set a goal of earning a hundred thousand dollars by the end of the month if in fact making a thousand dollars a month is all that can be achieved. This is wishful thinking and is way outside the realms of reality.

Although it's important to dream big and never let go of the ultimate prize, do it gradually. This will make it more believable and attainable.

Using the same example above, it would be better to set up a goal of earning two thousand dollars by the end of the month. After you have achieved that aim, your next goal is to make three thousand dollars, and so on.

But a word of caution - if you have a goal such as the one above, don't forget that you'll need to have other essential steps in place so that your goal can be achieved. These steps include a Plan, the Right Mindset, your Business Model, your Product or Service, How To Sell, Where to Market, and the list goes on. All these aspects are described in my eBook Bring On New Times.

2. Make your goal detailed

The more detailed your goal is, the more effective it becomes. By being very specific and putting a lot of effort into creating a goal, you're a long way down the path to success. Your mind has already mapped out the outcome of your goal, and that on its own is a great advantage.

Here's an example. Instead of writing down that you want to have a comfortable online business, write down that you want to become "the most successful online business in your niche".

It instructs your subconscious mind to focus on specifics, and it drives you to achieve more than what's merely hoped for.

3. Be flexible

If after a period of time you realize that there's no way you can meet your goal, then make adjustments that are achievable. Go back to the planning of the goal, give some thought to a new pathway, plot the course, then write it down.

This process allows you some leeway and still keeps you focused on achieving your ultimate goal. If you have set time parameters on various steps towards your goal, try not to keep changing the deadlines because this will mean that you're getting stuck.

Here's the point I'm emphasizing. Be dedicated to achieve any goal within a certain period, but never give up in case something goes wrong.

The important thing is that you did your best to achieve it, and that you're flexible enough to know when you should alter your original plans.

4. Reward yourself

Rewards are very important on the road to success, so reward yourself for a job well done. If a goal for a day is write a series of articles for publication in forums or your blog, then give yourself a treat.

This motivates you to do your best to achieve your goal. A reward system also works quite well for goals that are a little more arduous.

5. Remain positive

We all know about the power of positive thinking. There have been hundreds of books written on the subject. One thing is for sure - being positive has an amazing ability to change the state of your mind.

So, when writing down your goals, be as positive as you can be. It's not only very good for your mindset, but it's also great for reatining clarity with your objectives.

Combine this with Tip #4 for optimum results.

6. Stay committed to your goals

Stay the course, persist. Avoid setting goals and then ignoring them if the going gets a bit tough.

Remember, goals aren't always easy to achieve. They will require time, persistence, and perhaps even a bit of sacrifice.

Don't be afraid of a little hard work, because if you aren't prepared to dig in then you won't get the results that you've planned for. Giving up on a goal too readily will only diminish your plan for success. Stay committed to your goal unless it's more practical to change course (as has been described in Tip #3).

7. Re-adjust conflicting goals

Be aware of setting a goal that might conflict with another goal. Observe what you've written down, re-read your list of written goals, examine any conflicting points, change them if required.

Goal-setting is not a waste of time but an important function of establishing a new home business, or indeed maintaining its progress. These 7 Tips can be used for any small enterprise.

Keep it simple. Be realistic, committed, and positive. Persevere.

If you do all these things, there's no reason why you can't achieve your goals.
